Pledging Process.

To become a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, students must first apply for and be admitted into a seven-week pledge process. During the pledge process, we cover extensive professional skills, as well as soft skills such as public speaking and networking. Students participate in weekly meetings that include professional workshops, interview prep, social events, and community service.

Throughout the pledge process, students will create a professional cover letter, resume, and group professional presentation. Students will also get the chance to practice individual, group, phone, and virtual interviews. To become a brother of Alpha Kappa Psi you must (1) pass mid-court and court of honor evaluations, (2) pass the fraternal exam, (3) attend all pledging activities, (4) maintain academic success and good standing with the University.

The pledge process allows new members to gain and improve their professional skills while preparing them to join the fraternity. The overarching goal is to help students develop important, transferable business skills. Successfully completing the pledge process is determined by each pledge’s ability to manage time and work in a team setting.

We host pledge events 1-2 weeks before applications are due!

FAQs

Do I have to be a business major to join?

Not at all. Alpha Kappa Psi is open to all majors and any Seattle University students who are looking for professional development. We pride ourselves in the diversity of our brothers in the chapter- some even enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Nursing.

What type of candidate are you looking for?

We aren’t looking for any certain kind of pledge. We understand that the pledging process is a learning experience. Ultimately, we are looking for people who are open to constructive criticism, committed to developing their personal and professional skills, and interested in making contributions to the chapter.

What is the pledging process like?

The duration of the pledging process is seven-weeks. During this time, pledges attend weekly classes and events about business ethics, public speaking, team development, and other topics regarding professional development. Outside of class, pledges will learn email and interview etiquette, and improve their resume and cover letters.

Do you haze pledges?

Definitely not. We have stringent policies against any and all inappropriate behavior and hazing. For details of our policies, ask us about our national regulations and codes concerning hazing, alcohol and drugs, and sexual harassment.

Why Alpha Kappa Psi?

As the oldest and largest existing professional business fraternity, you will be able to join and have access to a network of professionals from over 240,000 members and 300 college campuses. Members of Alpha Kappa Psi exhibit the fraternity’s core-values of Brotherhood, Knowledge, Integrity, Service, and Unity.

How much are chapter dues?

Finance should not come in the way of learning and growth in our organization, therefore we do not consider finances a barrier to your involvement in our chapter. We ensure that fees are absolutely affordable and offer support to members who are encountering financial difficulties.
